First Visit

What to expect at the first visit

Your child's first visit focuses on getting to know them and understanding their dental needs. We carry out a detailed, thorough examination of their teeth, gums and mouth, with X-rays where appropriate.

We then develop an individual treatment plan and take time to explain our findings, the treatment options and the costs involved, giving you an opportunity to ask questions. Little or no treatment is usually carried out at this appointment, apart from any emergency care needed to relieve pain or address an urgent problem.

How to prepare your child

Talk about the visit in a calm, positive way, using simple phrases such as "the dentist will count your teeth and help keep them healthy". Avoid mentioning needles, pain or your own dental worries, and allow our team to explain the visit in child-friendly language.

Reading a story about visiting the dentist or practising opening wide at home can help, and your child is welcome to bring a favourite toy for comfort. Please tell us beforehand about any medical conditions, additional needs or previous difficult dental experiences, so we can tailor the appointment to your child and help them feel at ease.
